Lamesa Filipino Kitchen is a must-try if you’re in the Queen and Bathurst area. I’ve never had Filipino food before, but I will definitely have it again. This cute little spot has a cozy and intimate ambiance. I’d come back here for date night, with a close group of friends or for a casual business meeting. My favourite thing about this place is the staff. I love when people are passionate about what they do. It’s infectious. Our server explained the menu in detail, gave us his recommendations and then explained each dish thoroughly as it came out. What a treat!
The menu is broken up into four sections: Merienda (appetizers), Gulay (veggies, noodles & rice), Ulam (mains) and Matamis (dessert). Full menu.
I had the Tuna Kinilaw as a Merienda. It is basically a Filipino ceviche made from: albacore tuna, coconut, avocado, calamansi and shirmp chips. The presentation was beautiful and the shrimp chips make this magical crackling sound as they soak up the juices. So fun!
As a main I had the Salmon Laing which is a seared filet with kale, lentil, leek, cashew, coconut and curry. The salmon was seared to perfection and the cashews added a nice crunch. However, the butternut squash purée was the highlight of this dish for me.
Next time you’re hitting a show on Queen St. stop into Lamesa, you’ll be glad you did!
